He is a crazy, wacky hatter who meets Alice when she shows up in Wonderland. He loves having tea parties with his friends, the March Hare, and the Dormouse. He made a deal with time that saved him from execution, but now he has a never-ending tea party…. My costume is, The Mad Hatter, from the 2010 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, starring Johnny Depp!
I made the jacket, vest, shirt, and most accessories (e.g. gloves, lace wrist cuffs, thread sash, etc) from scratch. I ended up reallocating other clothing items to piece together the rest of the costume: such as a pink shirt for the pocket cloth, different pairs of socks to get the mismatched effect, various hatpins added to the hat to make it more authentic looking, and shoes retied to achieve the look of the shoes in the movie. I also did my own makeup for the costume, and in order to achieve the desired look, I reshaped orange eyebrows to look like the Hatter’s, and then super-glued them on to make sure they stayed!
