Coolest Mario and Luigi Halloween Costumes

My boys love Mario and Luigi video games and really wanted to be them for the annual Halloween costume contest at school. There was nothing in the marketplace at the time so I had to pull everything together and make my own Mario and Luigi Halloween Costumes.

The masks were pieced together using felt; the nose was stuffed with paper to make it stand out. I just added yellow buttons to jean overalls. I also used felt to decorate their candy bags with various “one-up” mushrooms (2nd pic) and Donkey Kong made a surprise appearance on Halloween night! Both of my boys ended up winning the costume contest for 2nd and 3rd grade — they were so happy!

  1. Thank you for the great idea! My son LOVED his Mario mask I made him from your post! I can’t thank you enough… now he wants a Mario themed party for his birthday in December!

  2. WOW! I LOVE THEM!! we are scraping for penny’s this year and my boys want to be Mario and Luigi but the cheapest costume i can find is about $20 for one(not including shipping, they’re $30 in store). Do you mind me asking, about how much did they cost you? minus the masks, i was thinking i can cut out foam or felt and use double sided tape, or simply draw them on if those don’t work. It seems to be turning out to be more than the 20/piece so i may end up just buying the costumes. either way, i will give up my own dinners(not theirs of course!) to get them in their costumes for halloween! haha thanks so much!
