Homemade Mud Costume from Swiffer Wet Jet Commercial inspired by commercial.
What’s needed:
Dress, shoes, (purse, bangles, and glasses optional)
Spray paint
Great Stuff insulating foam (gloves for protection recommended)
This costume idea came to me after watching a Swiffer commercial. I used an old dress that I’ve had sitting in my closet since high school and a purse that I’ve had since middle school. The shoes were purchased at the Salvation Army. I also had a pair of 3-D glasses and bangles that I used. The most expensive part was the Great Stuff insulating foam that I used to cover all the fabric. About 6 bottles and a day later everything was ‘foamed’. However, I didn’t realize how stiff it would make the dress. I could not fit into the dress at first and had to cut into the foam along the back of the dress so that the fabric could stretch. I then spray painted everything brown and my mud costume was ready!
I’d recommend stretching the fabric before spraying on the insulating foam. I placed a box inside my dress to help stretch it out some. I had two friends (dirt and dust) that also dressed up with me. We were a huge hit at our Veterinary School Halloween Party!
Is your costume for sale? I would love to buy it! Let me know!
Thanks
