Coolest MVP Baseball Trophy Halloween Costume

I came up with the idea for this costume after a business trip to Las Vegas. While there in Vegas, I saw ‘living statues’. People would actually dress from head to toe, as well as paint their faces and any exposed skin, in strictly one color, then ‘freeze’ in various poses for entertainment.

I thought it was the coolest thing ever, so I began brainstorming ideas as to what kind of ‘statue’ I could make our eight year old son for Halloween. I managed to think of a baseball trophy, told my idea to my son, and got started on making it all happen.

Everything aside from the trophy base was bought at a second hand store called Goodwill. Credit for the base goes to my husband, who cut a block out of Styrofoam, got and cut hard plastic material from a sign shop to cover it, then spray-painted it black. Once that was done, he cut some vinyl to make the All Star MVP 2006 plaque lettering, followed by our son’s name.

Next came the hard part: we had to spray-paint all of the clothing for the trophy. Every piece of material was painted with gold spray paint. As for the face of my handsome lil trophy boy, I bought some awesome face makeup called Mehron for somewhere around $7.00. The face paint was very simple to apply, and the clean-up couldn’t have been easier.

All in all, we had anywhere from $20 to $25 in the costume, which landed in First place everywhere we went.

  1. Wow, this is so cool! We are making a similar costume for my daughter, except she is going to be a beauty queen trophy. We are having trouble attaching the base. How did you do it?

  2. I love this. Did you use the powder Mehron make up or was it liquid? When you spray painted the clothes, wasn’t it hard for him to get into them?
