This Homemade Oompa Loompa Costume was way easier than it looks to make. I took a pair of white drawstring women’s Capri pants and simply sewed a line that resembled what I thought the Oompa pants would look like on the outer leg. This cut out the step of actually having to make pants.
I then took and old white pillow case and made suspenders which I stitched in place in the back but used Velcro in the front so it was easy to get in and out of. I bought the Lands End chocolate brown turtle neck ($9.99) and used white duct tape on a pair of brown knee high socks. I bought 1/4 yard of fabric that was brown and white striped for the arms, neck and balls on shoes, I simply put Velcro on it to hold it in place. The shoe ball is Styrofoam and just wrapped.
The wig was a cheap Halloween wig (woman’s bob shape $6.99) that I purchased in green. I used diluted down glue and sprayed it on the hair that I wanted to roll and left it wrapped in toilet paper rolls (with wax paper to prevent sticking) for 3 days. That gave the hair the loop. The hardest part of this costume was messing with the wig. It didn’t want to hold the curl but ultimately after 3 days being rolled and held in place with clips and the glue, it worked. I kept the wig rolled in the rollers until it was time to wear just to keep the curls the tightest.
Good luck and have fun! This costume was a huge crowd pleaser!
