I decided to do Oscar the grouch because i had seen many different types of costumes for him. I remember watching Sesame Street and thought it would be a great idea to do. I had seen someone online make a replica of him and thought how hard could it be. 1 month later and some headaches ago, i finally completed Oscar.
The first step was to get all the needed supplies for Oscar which included : Trash can, Fur, newspaper, hot glue, gloves, paint, wires, sharpie. First was making Oscar’s head, which was made of paper mache. the rest was pretty easy from there just making eyes, cutting the fur to fit Oscars head and body, as well as making hands for Oscar. The trash can had to holes for my arms. Let me tell you after a few hours Oscar could be quite heavy, Go figure!
The whole process took about one month. I think the hardest part was trying to estimate the right dimensions for everything, after this things just fell into place. The funniest part was seeing everything come together and being able to make Oscar talk.
I got some great reactions from people at work. They loved it, all were intrigued by how Oscar was made and moved. Oh because his eye brows were also able to move up and down. Everyone needed a picture with Oscar and myself of course. He is definitely a hit with my nieces who watch Oscar on Tv.
This is a great costume for not only for Halloween but for parties as well. I think that it would be a fun project for a family to do together and see how everything comes together. I has plenty of help from my family, and they loved the finished project as well.
If I had to do it again, I definitely would.
