This Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas Unique Halloween Costume Idea was paired with Jack Skellington. I made them for my boyfriend and I.
I made a very basic dress muslin (shift dress, basically) and drew out the placement of the patches and then cut the pieces apart for patterns.
I started the endeavor by finding felt by-the-yard. I dyed MOST of the felt to the colors I needed for the patches in Sally’s dress. (I’ll note that most felt doesn’t take color very strong. It sort of “tints” rather than actually dyeing it). I then took the dry dyed felt and hand painted the sections with spirals, stripes, or dots.
Once I had all the pieces of felt cut, I began to put them together. I used an iron-on adhesive with binding tape to put the pieces together. I then stitched a yarn over the seam lines.
For the body, I used tights, which I tinted light blue and then painted the seams with puff paint, so they’d sit up from the leggings. I also attached artificial leaves along the wrists of the gloves.
My wig is a simple yarn and pantyhose situation. I did all my makeup (took 2 1/2 hours EACH time!). I painted my eyelids with a large pupil, for photographs. It really gave a neat effect!
I love the gloves with the leaves peeking out, great touch! The costumes is amamzing.
Please explain your wig a bit better.
