Coolest Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) Costume

My sixteen year old daughter wanted to be Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas for Halloween, so of course I obliged her.

I searched for a dress pattern that had the basic shape of Sally’s dress and sewed that pattern from old bed sheets. I then started collecting scrap fabrics in the basic colors that we need to try and match Sally’s dress. There were some we couldn’t find, so we used fabric paint, and I also embroidered the fabric to make it match.

I cut the pieces to match the patchwork shapes on Sally’s dress and attached those to the basic bed sheet dress I had already sewn. I added the patches, and we purchased a white turtle neck and leggings. When the entire thing was sewn together, my daughter hand stitched the yarn stitches all over the dress, turtleneck and leggings using pics we found on line to try and make it as exact as possible.

I also created the yarn wig, by first crocheting a simple skull cap, then tying super long bundles of hair to it.

This Sally (Nightmare Before Christmas) Costume was one of the most fun costumes I’ve ever made. AND my daughter LOVES it!! :D
