First I drew a sketch of Sally, The Nightmare Before Christmas costume, while watching the movie and labeled the colors and design of the patches. I then went to the Salvation Army store and bought a brown dress and three shirts, yellow(not very bright),purple, and a greysih blue. I don’t know how to use a sewing machine so believe it or not I made my costume with a hot glue gun.
I then drew on the dress to figure out where to cut and where all the patches would go. Then traced a little bit at a time with the hot glue and pressed the corresponding fabric down. Cut off the excess fabric neatly leaving a bit to tuck in order to have a nice edge -I would also used the clean straight edge of a fabric first if possible to over lap a patch that maybe wasn’t so neat.
After all the patches where in place I used fabric paint, the kind in little squeeze bottles, to make the designs: The swirls on the purple, the little dots on the yellow. The big spots on the brown. Using thick thread I made stitches around each patch.
The tights I bought at a 99 cents store and used kids washable marker to make stitches on the tights while wearing them. The boots and stockings I already had.
The grey face make up I found at a costume shop and I used black eyeliner to make stitches on my body and finished it with baby powder to set the make up.red lipstick, black nail polish and long fake eyelashes were also used (lashes not shown in picture).
