I love to dress the whole family in one theme. My kids love Scooby Doo, so when my youngest said she wanted to be Scooby Doo for Halloween, it was with glee that I decided we should all dress up as the Mystery Gang. My son was all too happy to be Shaggy. I vacillated between Daphne and Velma, in the end deciding that Velma was just a little bit more interesting. And for my husband, it was a given he would be Fred.
For Scooby, we just bought the costume at the local store. Shaggy had brown pants and brown shoes in his closet; the green T-shirt was from Goodwill, and for the wig I bought a 70’s teen wig, which I cut because it was way too long for his small child head. The goatee was drawn on.
For Fred’s hair I also cut a wig, a blond mullet wig. The ascot was cut from an orange t-shirt. The rest of the clothes were already in the closet.
Velma’s skirt I found at Walmart along with the socks at Target. The sweater came from Goodwill, and the shoes were already in my closet. I drew on some freckles, and used an old pair of sunglasses without the lenses. For Velma’s hair, I used a wig from a Dora costume.
We had a blast dressing up, and though we are already planning next year’s costumes, we all agree it will be a tough act to follow.
