This Smurfette Costume was for a fancy dress party I had last year. I’m dressed as Smurfette, and have painted my face, neck, arms and hands with Kryolan SupraColor in 091, which is a stage makeup greasepaint (I work as a Stage Manager so knew where to get good long lasting face paint in the widest range of colours). I used disposable foundation sponges to put this on, and a Q Tip for inside my eyeline, nose etc. I then set this using a translucent face powder (Boots Natural Collection, buy a different powder brush to the one you normally use as it will turn blue!) My dress is a simple white cotton shift from H&M, which I had already, and I got the tights from Tabio (80 denier Royal Blue) I wore little white pumps.
The wig is from Argos (Blonde Glam wig) and the hat is made from jersey toweling fabric which I cut and hand stitched into a basic smurf hat shape, then stuffed with the excess fabric to keep it upright and pinned it to the wig using Kirby grips (bobby pins). I have long dark hair with a fringe (bangs) so I’ve tied and pinned it up and put a wig cap on ( I didn’t have an actual wig cap at hand so used a pair of tan tights (pantyhose) pulled over my head with the legs cut off, this is a trick used by wig and hair people in the theatre, it really works, if you have darker skin use a darker pair of tights!) It was a lot of fun and had lots of comments on how good my costume was, only problem was that people didn’t recognize me!
I also had to travel part of the way to the party on the tube (London’s underground train network) and got some very odd looks, as it wasn’t Halloween and people didn’t understand why I was in fancy dress!
