This year, our 5-year-old wanted to be… The Solar System!! Gulp. After much debate and trying to convince our son that we needed a back-up plan, my wife and I began the quest. The assembly consisted of a bike helmet (thrift store), Styrofoam balls, plant wire, spray paint, glitter, a black t-shirt, fabric glue, and glow-in-the-dark stars (arts and crafts store).
Making it to scale was obviously impossible, but we knew that Pluto had to be small (we know it got demoted, but we gave Pluto its props anyway). Since we couldn’t find a Styrofoam ball small enough, I suggested aluminum foil and it worked perfectly!
My wife did a great job with the painting and the texturing (paper maché). It went down to the wire, but my wife came through and it was a great success! At my son’s kindergarten Halloween costume parade, he certainly stood out, but in a good way!
Your sons costume looks absolutely fabulous, and it even looks comfortable enough to wear. You should be proud!!!!
I love this idea. My son wants to be Jupiter this year. Yikes!!
My son is going to be a rocket ship for halloween this year. I was going to be the sun, but I really like this idea! I think I might be changing my plans to be the whole solar system instead. Thank you!
Any chance you could make the same for my 3-year-old for a fee?
if so, please email jeanleeswagert@gmail.com
