I created the Homemade Spartan Cheerleaders Couple Costume after going to the costume store, and finding the costumes there were cheaply made, and over priced for the quality. So here’s how I made this costume:
1) I visited my local Sand Dollar thrift store and found the pants for $2.00. I found the black sweaters for $1.50 each and the skirt was actually an ankle length skirt I cut. It was priced at $4.00. The trip there was $9.00 and some change.
2) I then visited Hobby Lobby crafts and bought 3 yard of each white satin, red, black, and a thin white ribbon. Spent about a total of 8.00 there. The clearance racks were good to me that day.
3) I had the paint and letter stencils at home from previous projects, as well as the hot glue gun and sticks. I got to work first gluing the ribbons together. After letting them dry, I then got to work on the SPARTAN letters across the wide ribbon. Once it fully dried over night, i glued that to my black sweaters. I let that dry over night and then we just got our pants and skirt on and we were ready for our party the next day.
Over all, my experience with this was great, and best of all it looked good, and cost me less than $20.00 for two costumes, vs over $40 for just the one cheapie one. I will definitely make my costumes again.
