Our Spongebob Square Pants costume was made first from a rectangle shaped box, large enough to fit an adult male.
I purchased a piece of foam large enough to fit a twin bed from Hobby Lobby. For the perfect desired sponge effect, I pulled individual pieces out of the foam. The foam was spray painted a bright yellow. Pants, shirt, and tie were made from felt.
The most unique part of the costume is that you can actually see out of the eyes. The eyes were made from small size plastic plates with holes cut into the center. Underneath the plate, I used the large netting/tulle purchased from Hobby Lobby in the fabric section. To add additional ventilation, I also used brown Tulle to cover the mouth, again from behind the cut out.
The large Chicklet teeth were made from the plastic plate scraps. The pink tongue was made from the colored foam. The top of the foam is not closed, again to allow for ventilation. The sponge and large pieces of foam were all hot glued onto the box.
