These Super Mario Child Costumes were super easy & it was so nice to find a theme that my boys AND my girl could agree on.
To start with I found a pepto-pink vintage dress at the thrift store & cut it down crudely to fit my daughter – I am really not a seamstress I just kinda eye-ball it. All my costumes are hand-sewn. But I thought it turned out rather cute.
Sticky foam sheets were my saving grace for these costumes – I used them for the crown, the letter on Mario’s hat (also found at the Thrift store) & toad stools dots on his hat & that fabulous Mario mustache.
Mario’s costume was simply a blue sweat suit – I cut the shirt into an “overalls” shape & pinned them together – then put it over a red turtleneck – glued a letter on his hat added some white gloves & yellow “buttons”
Toadstool – I looked EVERYWHERE for white sweat pants & failed…argh. So I ended up making do with a pair of clearance white capris I found at WalMart, cinching them at the waist & a white t-shirt. I had this blue vest (for his AWANA vest), I turned it upside down & double-side taped yellow ribbon along the outside edge. I made the white hat our of felt & added the red foam dots.
These were pretty basic, but I thought they turned out super cute!
