Boing! Boing! Boing! It’s a big bouncy ball!
I have wanted to be a ball for a long time but I couldn’t figure out how. Finally, I was cleaning up and I found a swimming pool toy ball. Often, my best costumes come from finding the right object to work with.
Materials:
-Swimming pool toy ball
-Cotton batting
-Yellow Spray Paint
-White Spray Paint
I bought cotton batting from my local craft store and slowly attached it to the costume in sections using boxing tape folded into rolls to make it double sided. As this costume was inflatable, I couldn’t use hot glue, making the process somewhat tedious.
After attaching all the cotton batting, I got started painting. It took 3 cans of yellow spray paint to paint the tennis ball yellow. I first tried ordinary paint, but the cotton batting is so absorbent that it was taking too much paint and the paint was not drying in a timely fashion.
Then, I simply added the correct lines with white spray paint.
Tip: Make sure to wear tennis shoes!
how do you get in and out of the costume. Could you give more detailed directions? I love it but am totally baffled.
Thanks
How did you make the actual shape of the ball? I was thinking of using Hula hoops to keep the shape?
Laura: We would like to make a mascot for our tennis center & would appreciate more detail in making your cute costume. How could you add a big tennis hat to the top and keep the person’s head inside the ball- cutting big holes for the eyes & perhaps holes for the arms too. thanks for your input.
Hi There,
I was hoping perhaps you still have the costume and we might be able to hire it from you?
Kind Regards,
Vanessa
