My six year old son has been asking to be Thomas the Train for years for Halloween. All of the costumes that the Thomas the Train website had to offer were not only boring, but would now not fit him. I decided that it would be more fun to make him a Homemade Thomas the Train Costume myself.
I got a box from work and some supplies from the craft store and went to work. I cut the box to the shape of Thomas, spray painted the outside the optimal Thomas blue, and painted on the rest of the detail. Although it is not pictured we used a grill charcoal bag, lined with plastic and attached handles, as a candy collecting bag.
My son then dressed up in overalls, a flannel shirt, a handkerchief around his neck and a conductors hat to finish the ensemble. The duality of the costume proved to be useful when hauling a light but “boxy” Thomas around for the duration of trick-or-treating proved to be too much. All we did was take Thomas off for mom to hold as the conductor made his rounds gathering candy.
All in all it was a fun costume, easy and cheap to make and the coolest Thomas the Train costume around!
