Coolest Troll Dolls Costume

Remember the troll dolls you used to own when you were little? Last Halloween, my friends and I had so much fun recreating them. The favorite part of our costume was our hair. We put cups on top of our heads and used ponytail holders to secure them in place. Then, we used lots and lots of hairspray to keep our hair sticking up as crazy as we could. We sprayed them with about a bottle of hair color and then we were set.

Our costumes were fun too. At first glance you might think we were all walking around in the buff, but we were wearing nude suits and pantyhose! We each made a gem with our troll’s belly (for good luck!)using foam board, glue, and glitter.

The costume was pretty easy and was a party favorite. And how many days of the year can you really run around in nude suits anyway?

  2. My 16 year old daughter and her friend are going to wear these to their dance class Halloween party. They have the nude leotards and tights as part of a dance costume they wore previously. (Any dance supply store would have these). Thanks for sharing your idea!

  4. We ordered the top body suits from amazon. They were about $20 each. We had a really hard time finding nude leggings for the bottom, so the bottoms are actually 2 pairs of pantyhose. (The layering of them made them less see-through).

Also, the hair coloring was just the spray-on kind. We got that from Johnny Brocks. It took about one full bottle for full coverage. The yellow coloring was hard to see on dark hair also, fyi!

  5. oh my gosh…what a great idea! I have been looking and looking up on the internet about how to look like a troll for Halloween. But, all I have found is wigs, and child costumes!

This is perfect… I will be going to get my supplies tomorrow! I think I am actually going to do long johns though… Hopefully it will be just as cute as you four! Thanks for the great idea! I have been pondering on the belly button issue!

  6. I am also stealing the troll doll idea. I bought a nude tank top and shorts at target in the bra section. It shapes to your body and actually makes you look a lot thinner!

Hair – use a water bottle or coke bottle

  11. Hey guys! So glad you all liked our troll costume! I am the green troll on the far right, and wanted share some tips to make this costume a success!

Hair: To get our hair to stick straight up we used Spiker gel by Joico and a small cup. Works like glue! But will wash out fine w/ warm water/shampoo. I?m pretty sure you can only get it at salons. But all 5 of us shared a bottle (more than enough).

Small plastic cups (the ones they give away at bars) work well for underneath your hair. I cut maybe an inch off the rim with scissors (you should do this if you have shorter hair). Flip your head upside down and make a ponytail, gathering your hair around the cup. Use the Spiker gel and smooth it over your hair/the cup to secure fly-aways. Tie the hair with a rubber band.

Then when it looks perfect, you?ll need 1 full can of colored temporary hair dye to cover your hair. (I have blonde highlights, it washes out fine after about 2 washes).

Leotards: Ideally a full-bodied nude suit would be best, but we just ordered basic nude ones?usually under 20 bucks or so.

Bottoms: If you can?t find nude leggings, 2 pairs of hose worn underneath the leotard to work pretty well to get those tan, trolly legs.

Belly gem: We made the gems with a foamy rubber material that you can find at any craft store and glued glitter on them and safety pinned them to the leotard?felt would work too.

Shoes/feet: As for shoes it doesn?t really matter, I think we tried to wear flats that matched our hair.

Ears: Some of us got pointy elf ears which looked the best?I tried to make pointy ears out of paper and it was kind of a fail.

  13. I am going to do the leotard and hair and ears and jewel, but i hate my thighs, do you think it would ruin the look if i put a pink skirt with it (cause i want to go as the pink troll) and then just have the thick skin colour tights under? I love your ideas though its amazing.
