Coolest Venus Fly Trap from Saw 2 Halloween Costume Idea

My friend and I decided in honor of the final installment of the Saw franchise coming out this year to go as our favorite characters from the previous films. I decided to construct the Venus Fly Trap from Saw 2 Halloween costume idea. After looking at numerous screen caps from the movie, I constructed my version of the trap.

Both faces of the mask are made from foamboard which I hot glued together. To make the rounded exterior of the mask, I used posterboard, which was easier to bend and manipulate. The spikes are made from the same foamboard, hot glued into place. The two halves of the mask are hinged to two wooden dowel rods, which are hot glued so that the mask won’t shut (which is good, because the spikes actually turned out rather sharp).

The body of the mask is made from even more foam board. The straps are strips of leather fabric which I got from my local fabric store. To complete the “key behind the eye” makeup, I glued a scar to the underneath of my eye, and covered the whole thing in fake blood.
