Cute George Washington Costume for a Boy

Our five year old son decided that he wanted to be George Washington for Halloween. My mother whipped this costume up with largely thrifted items, such as the wool coat which she cut down and added embelishments and the buckle shoes (she added the buckles to regular black shoes).

We went to Central Park to get a pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch and as we were walking to the end of the line, our son was riding on my husband’s shoulders and we heard, “George Washington!” and “Look, it’s the President!” It was very fun – people were enthralled with his costume – and even more so when they found out that he came up with the idea himself!
