Cute Mickey and Minnie Mouse Pug Costumes

I wanted to make my pugs a costume that would tie them together in a theme. I’d seen grown-up Mickey Mouse costumes to buy, but never dog ones.

Hmmm, off I go to Wal-Mart with ideas that might or might not pan out. On a clearance rack, I found 3T shorts for a boy ! Yes, got pants ! I kept looking and found a little girl’s dress in red not far away. Minnie, yes !!! Six dollars for the two items ! !  Next, I find 2 plain black headbands and just about the right size to stay on the pugs’ heads. I’m praying anyway !

Off to the craft store ! I need felt ,red fabric paint and long velcro straps.

I take out my glue gun at home. I  cut round circles of felt in black. I hot glue those on to Mickey’s pants. I take the velcro straps and outline them in red fabric paint to make it more noticeable on a black pug. A couple of stitches to make the straps cross and attach. Now I’m excited !

For Minnie’s dress, I glue black felt circles and smaller pink felt circles to make her girly. The ears are simply cardboard and felt, covered, glued and stapled. Minnies bow is hand sewn and stitched. I even put an “M” on the topside of Minnie’s dress with fabric paint. It is not visible in the photo though.

Making the costumes ? Easy actually ! Getting the 2 pugs who have no love affair for one another is a more than formidable task. Getting  two pugs to sit, stay, look at he camera at least  in the same gaze is enough to drive one to drink. One person holding treats as a bribe and the other trying to snap pictures. One and a half hours passes.

Neither Tucker (Mickey) nor Lilly (Minnie) have a desire to even sit close to one another. Yikes !  Fifty + jpegs and not one good shot. I am exhausted and the dogs are so exciited for all these free treats !

I tell myself if I can’t get a picture in the next hour I give up ! How to get them closer ? They refuse and keep jumping down.

I go off hunting for a prop. Aha ! Okay ! A good size pumpkin ! I’m sweating ! Place the prop between them. They couldn’t care less. All my pleading, talking like a baby falls on deaf dog ears. I growl.

Just as we are about to give up getting two impatient pugs to look at the camera at the same time….. a miracle ! A noise at the front door !  They both look simultaneously in the direction of the window ! Three shots in a row !

Costume time ? Not bad at all ! Picture taking ? Over two hours and I will not try to force them to sit together EVER  again!!!!  We pulled off the costumes and I laid down for a two hour nap. Costumes 10 bucks each. Getting the picture ? Enough to send me to the insane asylum !

In the beginning you’ll need 2 dogs !
