The three Oompa Loompa Costumes on the right of the picture were made by this momma!! Every year in my small town we have Halloween around our Courthouse square where all the stores down town give out candy; well, I got tired of seeing the same costumes from WalMart over and over and over.
So when I was trying to think of something for my little loves to be, I thought hmm.. I want something that everybody is going to turn their heads to see!! So I decided to make something that my 11 year old girl, 4 year old and 2 year old boys could be. I thought why not Oompa Loompa! And let me tell you they were a show stopper!! Everybody LOVED them! I was going to Opt to make my daughter Violet Beauregard but I decided to just do 3 Oompa Loompas.
To make their costumes I started off with buying them all three Brown turtleneck long-sleeve shirts. To make the stripes on the collars of the shirts and the cuffs on the sleeves, I bought white felt, cut into strips and hot glued them on the turtle neck part of the shirt. For the cuffs, I took wider pieces of white felt and painted brown stripes on them and then glued them to the bottom sleeves of the shirt.
For the bodices of the outfits I bought a white fleece material from Walmart in the fabric section and made simple shorts with big poofs on the sides of them (if you don’t know how to sew a simple pair of shorts, YouTube can give you a good idea). Then I cut long strips and hemmed them down the sides for the X straps part of the costume. I bought 3 pair long white thin socks and painted brown stripes on them as well. For the circles on the coverall part I use brown felt circles and glued them on. I let them wear their Sperrys shoes for the shoes, and glued Styrofoam balls on them that I painted with brown swirls as well.
I bought them white Christmas gloves for the gloves and painted their hair white and then green because they have really dark hair so I was afraid it wouldn’t show up very well. Then I painted there faces orange with white eyebrows and that was it!! Very cute and simple, but AWESOME Oompa Loompa Costumes!
They were truly a showstopper! We loved them and kids had fun helping me make them!!
