My husband (boyfriend at the time) and I had no idea what to be for Halloween. After hours of brainstorming, I just said ‘screw it, I’m just going to be myself’…and that’s when the light bulb went off! I was born and raised in Germany, so we decided to go crazy with the stereotypical German look and be Germans for Halloween!
The costumes were super easy, cheap and best of all no one else had them! We took a trip to the Salvation army, where I picked up this suede leather skirt and we found this great pair of women shorts for my hubby…the higher the shorts sat, the better!
I then went to work with a little puff paint and created the typical German designs on the skirt. We dug up an old pair of Birkenstocks and high socks, put a feather in the hat..and BAM! our costumes were pretty much done! My mom had an old pair of suspenders we borrowed and I just used some brown fabric for my ‘suspenders’. I Threw some bows in my hair, put on a white top and we were ready to hit the town!
We looked absolutely ridiculous…way too German than what Germans actually look like! BUT it was absolutely fantastic! We had such a great response to our costumes…everyone loved them and so did we!
