I came up with this idea of a giant bowl of Cocoa Puffs costume for a child, because I am an avid cereal fan. There was a trick or treat event going on at our local orchard, so I wanted to “WOW” the thousands of people that I knew would be in attendance. So, I purchased a rope handle tub, removed the rope handles, had my husband cut off the bottom, and painted the tub brown.
I then bought 2 inch Styrofoam balls, and also painted those brown. I originally started to spray paint them, and they melted from the harsh chemicals! So I used regular can paint and dipped the balls in. I then used a piece of white fabric, used for the milk, cut a hole in the middle to fit my 4 year old daughter’s head, torso, and arms, and attached it to the inside of the tub with hot glue and duct tape. I hot glued the “cocoa puffs” to the fabric. My husband helped me by cutting out a ginormous spoon out of cardboard, and I used aluminum foil to cover it.
I cut out and hot glued the front of the Cocoa Puffs cereal box and attached it to the front of the tub. We crisscrossed straps from the holes where the ropes were to sit on my daughter’s shoulders. I dressed her in brown from head to toe. NEEDLESS to say, as soon as we arrived at the orchard, we had compliments from everyone who saw her, telling us how creative and original her costume was. She was even stopped by an orchard staff member to snap a picture for their Facebook Page. My daughter was over the moon, with all of the attention she received on this awesome creation of ours!
