My name is Sarah. I am 25 years old and have been 4’11” tall since 5th grade. Needless to say, I’ve heard all the short jokes in the book. I loved most of them, but I wanted to recreate the Oompa Loompa because that was most common.
I found the socks and shirt and that was the start of it all. I searched high and low for a cute skirt to match the original overalls that they wore in the movies and I couldn’t find one. So I sewed the skirt with suspenders on my sewing machine and sound some big buttons i spray painted brown and hand sewed those in place. My shoes were actually my existing work shoes with a little platform. I used an airbrush to spray myself orange and drew my eyebrows on with white eyeliner. I used a neon green hair spray to do my hair after tying it up in position.
I did this for work (a server at a seafood restaurant) at the time and there was a contest at the end of the night that I won. People all night were loving the costume. I even made a song to tell the customer the special of the evening that was to the tune of the Oompa Loompa song.
