I came up with this idea while shopping in a thrift store for Halloween. I found this dress and for $2 I just had to do something with it. I bought the dress and used double sided (sticky back) Velcro to along with a needle and thread to fasten a whole bunch of small dolls around my waist. To stick with tradition, I wore [almost] no make-up. I wore socks over thick white tights and black lace up sneakers. The essential to this costume was the hair. I tried a few practice runs and did a ton of internet research, however found no “how-to” for polygamist hair, even my hairstylist friend could not figure it out. What I settled on was taking a thin toothed hairband and putting it about an inch and a half farther back then I normally would and then pushed it forward to create a “poof”. I then did a french braid down the back of my hair. I used a TON of hairspray to make to poof stay poofed. I honestly have no clue how real polygamist women do it.
Tip if you’re planning on doing this, traditional polygamist dresses are one solid pastel colour, not patterned like to one I used. They also usually have a collar.
