Homemade Wicked Queen from Snow White Costume

Wicked? In the photo above I’m having too much fun for the actual menacing look, but I’m supposed to be the wicked queen from Snow White.

The occasion was a ‘W’ Party for my husband’s 40th – big bash and I was the hostess. The Wicked Queen Costume had to be something good and handmade, cause I’m crafty and it was expected! It took me a long time to think of something that wasn’t “ordinary” like witch or wiggle.

So here it is. I used the cheapest satin I could find for the dress and cape and some iron on stiffener for the collar. Basic tunic dress pattern, but made the sleeves really wide for effect.

The balaclava pattern that I got from a free download of the internet, is made out of black Lycra and the crown is some old gold material I had laying around glued over a wire frame that my hubby bent up for me. I did manage to lose it a few time during the night whilst serving platters and drinks! It also made for an excellent “every one try on my crown” novelty during the wee hours of the party.

I finished off the look with long black boots, red glitter nail polish and of course, a bright red apple.

It was a hit! No-one could believe I made it, so it must have looked good.

  1. for posting this. my daughter will be snow white (got the costume) and I want to be the evil queen but the price is wrong. I remembered I have purple fabric, just need black or even new fabric all together.

If I can I’ll post pictures of us :3

  2. Hey Lanie,

Hope you managed to find some fabric and put your costume together. So happy my idea helped you and what a great thought to have you and your daughter go dressed from the same movie. Good luck! Can’t wait to see the photos.

  3. the headpiece pattern I just drew up myself and bent the wire around that.

the cape and tunic dress patterns were from a craft/sewing shop.

  4. Great costume! Hopefully you got treated like a queen!

My mother would always dress as the evil queen; however she would wear a long purple gown and throw a long black/red vampire cape over it. She would always work her magic while handing out candy.

Keep on working your magic ;)
