It all started with a love for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory and Pure Imagination. Standing at just 4’11 and 3/4″, I often turn to short things for Halloween costumes. Of these have been a gnome, leprechaun, smurf, and of course and Oompa Loompa. I had my costume all ready to go for my first Halloween celebration in college, except I couldn’t find orange paint ANYWHERE. I attended Virginia Tech so I found it odd that orange paint was nowhere to be found. I literally searched every shelf of Wal-mart twice, Target, Party-City, you name it. Not to mention I didn’t have a car my freshman year so this was a lot of walking around Christiansburg. Let’s just say I got real familiar with the bus system real quick. I finally found some hole in the wall costume shop that had orange face paint and loaded up!
I then bought some white painter paints, wide white elastic, green hair spray, and a brown shirt.
For my friend Matt who is 6’3″, we found a top hat, pimp cane, and a nice purple blazer from a thrift store.
In some of the pictures you will see my roommate spraying my hair in the dorm bathroom. I’m suprised we didn’t get a write-up from an RA because you could smell the fumes down the hall and around the corner. After we were all put together we got a lot of laughs, smiles, and requests for pictures. We went to a haunted house and you could see orange paint on everyone’s costume from my face rubbing up against them. Let’s just say if I had gone to the candy shop, you would see the evidence.
