Last year, I struggled with a costume idea. At the last minute, I came up with the idea of dressing up as Frida Kahlo because I did not want a sexy costume and I wanted something unique.
I went to Burlington Coat Factory and got a red peasant skirt with sequins and a gold and red peasant top. I bought some fake, cheap gold earrings, necklace, and bracelets. I parted my hair down the middle, braided it in two braids, and pinned it to the top of my head. Then I bought some red, silk roses from the Dollar Tree and bobby pinned them in my hair. I got some wide, red Christmas ribbon and fashioned a sash out of it. I wore some moccasin/loafer type shoes.
The final touch was the make-up. I wore dark red blush and red lipstick. I used dark brown eyeliner to draw a unibrow and a thin mustache. You could also wear a shawl to complete your outfit. My Mexican friend even gave me the Mexican seal of approval.
