I really wanted to create a unique and interesting costume. A friend of mine worked at Longs at the time, and somehow I discovered that they do not sell crown royal bags with the bottles, they just throw them away.
So I started collecting the bags for months, unsure of what I was going to do. I had this old dress that didn’t quite fit me anymore so I used it as a frame. I started by cutting up the bags and then I pinned them to the dress to create the bodice. Then I stared sewing. I had never really sewn before, so there was a lot of trial and error. Then I started working on the skirt which took on this sort of gladiator look. Then I sewed whole crown royal bags with the drawstring attached to both sides of the skirt for pockets.
So I created this dress but I didn’t really know what to call it. Then it dawned on me, I should be Crown Royal– The Super Hero! So bought some shiny gold boots, some purple fishnets, a teeny tiny crown, and a gigantic blonde wig intended for a drag queen.
Voila! Very proud of my first ever homemade hand sewn Halloween costume!
