STROFOAM OR LAUNDRY BASKET FOR STRUCTURE

First off let me say, I had sooooo uch fun making this for our lil man (he is 5) He begged to be Stewart the one-eyed minion. I am a mother of 4 wonderful boys and I have NEVER bought one store made costume. That being said, let me tell you how I made this cute minion costume.

STEP 1- You will need a structure like styrofoam or tall round laundry basket. I used the styrofoam from the Duraflame electric fireplace we had just got a few weeks before..it was right size for our lil guy…I glued the two styrofoam pieces together and that gave me a rectangle form…I then duck(duct) taped the big bowl to top and taped around inside seams to secure to top and make it rounded on top of structure…

Step 2 -.I then draped the yellow fleece over and around the structure and then cut down sides to make it where our lil mans arms would come out. secure to top ..I gathered the material up like a ponytail or bun and secured with rubber band..

Step 3-.take panty hose… cut off legs of panty hose..tie cut portions around top bun thing you made bringing material together…and let extra hang..you can cut portions to whatever size you like..I hot glued smaller cut pieces in between larger ones let hang down…this is minion hair.Adjust how you like before gluing . Take last part..the panty area…be sure to cut out a round from hip area of panty to cover tin goggle you will be making for eye…then take rest and hot glue to top over bunched up bun of material to hide it…will look like hair on top of minion head.

Step 3-Take pie tin cut snip up one side and cut out center…so you are left with circle with hole in middle…wrap and form around in your hand til you condense tin circle down to size you want your goggle to be and then duct tape around split and extra to secure…then cover entire circle with tape making your grey goggle…take cut out panty round and hot glue or tape to just inside rim of pie tin…voila..minion eye. You can leave top piece loose to make clear opening if your lil one can’t see good through panty hose eye…

Step 4-cut out circle in foam and fleece where you want eye to go( measure area down from top) so your lil one can see out once you glue goggle onto fabric over hole. You should hot glue inside rim and press down onto fleece to make sure there is good solid gluing without glue showing outside goggle ring.

Step 5- Cut out and glue felt/fabric mouth under goggle eye.

Step 6- Make Bib overall front…sew sides so it has hem on both ends raw edges..cut out bib square..hem edges.Attatch bib overalls to structure… hot glue to fleece front. wrap around structure and hot glue in back overlaping pieces …secure with straight pin stukc through fabric pieces into styrofoam if you like . cut a stip off bottom off of hanging denim fabric…1 inch width for bib straps. hot glue to front secure with buttons glued over strip to make look like bib overalls are buttoned..then wrap around to back..hot gluing along the way to secure look of minion wearing the overalls over shoulders…hot glue to secure in back . voila bib overalls. Make a pocket out of smaller square if desired .Glue to front of bib. Take black sharpie and make circle on center of bib(or on pocket if you made one) and then take yellow paint on q-tipor small paint brush and make G logo for bib.

Step 7- Glue Web strap from inside edge of goggle eye wrap around structure and glue just inside ther side of goggle(giving look of wearing goggle.) after glued around take scissors and snip in back center. feed clip onto each side and clip back together…now you have ogle secure

Step 8-put your lil person in structure..it goes over the head…arms go out sides…adjust so they can see out and take sides and tuck around arms .(you may secure with sticky back velcro pieces if you like)…I did not find it neccesary. You can also pull bottom together and secure with safety pin otr sticky back velcro pieces to make more form fitting as pants….again, I did not as, it was just as cute just to let it hang. Our lil guy wore reg. demin jeans and a short sleeve(it was hot ) or long sleeve yellow shirt( if it is cold ) You then take and put Black boots or Sunday shoes on them and black dollar store gloves…(take and tuck in pinky and second finger as minions only have 3 fingers :)…that is it….We got sooooo many compliments and could not go even 5 ft. without ,someone stopping us to tell us how awesome it was or take pics or tell us it was cool our lil guy looked…EVERYONE said it was BEST MINION COSTUME THEY EVER SAW!!! Everyone also said , “You should enter him in costume contest cause, he WOULD WIN! lol …. Soooo here ya go….I had sooooo much fun making this for our lil guy ! Our lil guy was THRILLED to wear it and was estatic with the results… HE HAD A BLAST and loved it and .that is all that mattered to me. Lord willing, I will always be able to make our lil one his choice of costumes for many years to come….GOD BLESS! Good luck on your minion costume !
