It was difficult making this Sweet Transvestite Dr. Frank-N-Furter costume from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I have been wanting to do this since I first saw the movie. Having to piece the costume together one at a time was probably the most difficult, because I wanted each piece to be perfect. Well, the day we had decided to all dress up and go out, we wanted to go to a haunted house in the area. On our way to the haunted house, I heard on the radio that there was a costume contest at a bar, and the first prize was $300. We had a little bit till the actual contest so we went to the haunted house first.
While in line, everyone was looking at me like I’m crazy ( granted Halloween is always extremely cold so I had my carhart jacket on) one of the clowns was walking around tapping people in line on the shoulder trying to scare them. When he touched my girlfriends sister on the shoulder she turned around and slapped him. A few minutes later, a police officer came over and asked if he could talk to me a minute. He took me to the side and said “First thing, make sure to keep covered, your a** is hanging out, second, that clown over there said that you hit him?” I had to explain that it was my girlfriend’s little sister that had done that. So we go through the haunted house, and people are staring at me, one person even cane up and told me that she loved me and that I was beautiful.
After that, we left and headed back to the bar, it was still a small wait till the contest so we sat down and had a few drinks. One of the guys at the table next to us, turned around and said “you’ve got guts.” A couple of girls came over from another table and asked if they could have their picture taken with me, then they bought us some drinks. When it came time for the contest, I began to notice that there were a lot of people in the contest, so I didn’t think I would make it far. The crowds cheering was to be the judge. When the MC came over to me I wasn’t expecting much as far as cheers. When he pointed to me for the judging, I heard a lot more cheering than expected, (as well as more than most of the others before me) so I thought I had a chance. Many of the people who were eliminated sat down, and I remained.
This was it, down to the final four, myself, Papa Smurf, Keith Stone, and Cheech Marin. Unfortunately I did not win, only placed fourth, but much better than I would have ever imagined.
