My daughter decided she wanted to be Mary Poppins this year after watching the movie so I made the sweetest homemade daughter and father Mary Poppins costume by doing a lot of scavenging. I visited a bunch of local thrift shops and what I couldn’t buy I borrowed from kind neighbors. We also made the chimney brush by taking an old broom, bending the bristles, and spray painting it. We also had to paint my daughter’s hat, because we could not find a black one.
We went to our town’s costume contest tonight and my daughter and husband both won first place in their age divisions. Everyone was stopping us for pictures and my daughter loved it. She thought the purse was great for carrying around all the candy she gathered up at the different booths. It was also a perfect costume because the gloves, scarf, and coat really kept my daughter warm on such a cold night.
